TEMPORARY GOAT SHELTERS

So today we finished our temporary goat shelters.  Well just about finished.  The only thing we have left to do is the flooring.  That will be done in the morning, I hope.  The Weatherman is calling for a 60% chance of rain.  So I guess we'll have to wait and see.

There's quite a little storm that has been trying to roll in most of the afternoon.  Pretty much why we stopped building today.  Call me silly I just think if it's thundering every couple of minutes maybe you should not be outside.

This project was an all hands on deck.  Though the children didn't do much in the way of building the A-Frames they were helpful.  As most of the country it is hot here.  So the boys with the help of a friend removed sticks and branches that had fallen into the pen.  The girls also with the help of a friend were quick to run back and forth to the house for water.  It was much needed and very much appreciated.  I am not one who likes ice in my drinks but today...

If you're wanting to see the temporary shelters you can find them on my youtube channel.  I'll put a link at the bottom.  All in all it's been a pretty good day.  No one hit his head and there were no trips to the E.R..

There almost was one the other day but I'll leave that for another post.

22 FOR 22 DAY 4

22 FOR 22

You may have noticed I'm sharing a video from BIG BEAR HOMESTEAD.  Big Bear has taken the challenge 22 For 22.  If you are not familiar with the CHALLENGE, let me explain.  Approximately 22 Veterans die by their own hand every day because of PTSD.  The stress and challenges of coming home to civilian life are sometimes so overwhelming.  Many can't admit there is a problem and for the few that can well there isn't timely help or should I say much help.

Once again the VA system and the government is AWOL when it comes to caring for these beautiful souls.  Without a second thought they answered that call.  They willingly stood between the wolf and us and said you will not pass through me.  But in doing so they witnessed such atrocities.  Things no human being should ever have to see.  If once wasn't enough, many were called back again and again.

Please do something for me.  I want you to think of the happiest memory you have.  I would be willing to say you can remember the time of day it happened.  If it was sunny or cloudy.  Who was there to share your moment.  Where you were.  I would be willing to bet you could even remember whatever scent was in the air.  When it sneaks its way into your mind it must bring such a smile to your face.

Now lets change the scenario a little.  For Vets with PTSD it's not their best memories it's the worst.  See they can remember what time of day it was.  If it was sunny or cloudy.  Who was there at that moment.  Where they were.  Oh and they most definitely can remember the smells and no it doesn't bring smiles to their faces.

Many Vets will not talk of what they have seen unless it's with other Vets and then still not.  You see they're not trying to block us out, its a little more than that.  If you weren't there how could you understand and if you were there, well you already understand.

So I've decided to join Big Bear in the Challenge.  I'm not physically fit but I still want to help.  Yesterday I started by calling my Congressman and two Senators and I will call them everyday for the next 22 business days.  I would call everyday but Congress leaves on weekends.  As I said I'm not physically fit but today I added doing toe touches and I'll do that for 22 days.

Please, please consider doing something and taking the challenge.  We have to bring awareness to what's happening to our Vets.  If you can't do anything else please call congress everyday for 22 days.  I'll post a link so you can find the numbers to your Congressman and Senators.  And Thank You in advance.

YOU ARE YOUR CHILD'S BEST ADVOCATE

Yesterday the grandchildren came over for a visit.  There were many conversations but the one that lead the discussions while they were here was school.  Although most children dread going back to the classroom our grandchildren were excited.  I chalk that up to the fact they are homeschooled.  They had mentioned that their school books had arrived and they couldn't wait to get into them.

Daughter has always had to  slow them down this time of the year.  Once the books are here they start with "Can we start now?", over and over.  Now Daughter and Son-in-law teach all year long, not always with books.  During the summer break it's usually more practical hands-on learning.  As I've said in the past there is nothing like finding what excites a child and finding that link between teaching and learning.

For all the teachers out there I'm not saying you don't want to find what excites the children, just you don't always have time.  With all the demands of mandatory objectives it leaves little time for much of anything else.

I understand the option of homeschooling for some parents isn't there. Adding to that there are states that make it as difficult as they can for families who want to homeschool.  But if you can I highly recommend it.

We have a friend whose child is in high school and just recently found out that the child doesn't know how to write in cursive.  Most of the worlds' history is either in some sort of hieroglyphics or cursive writing.  How could children ever go to a museum, world libraries, or other locations and read these documents for themselves if they aren't taught cursive writing.  Such a disservice is being handed to our children.

Whether you homeschool or not you are your child's best advocate.  Know what they are being taught and if you feel something is missing, teach them yourself.

WELL THIS WAS A FIRST

Well folks we have had a first today on the new homestead.  Daughter and grandchildren after feeding the animals this morning collected eggs from the chickens and the ducks.  While Daughter was washing the eggs for breakfast she heard something rattling inside an egg.  So she decided to video the cracking of the egg.  You're not going to believe what happened next.  Well we didn't.

Some of you may have seen this before but I can honestly tell you none of us have.  Just think if one shell is a protective cover then what is two..  Well that's how our morning started can't wait to see what the rest of the day brings.

NAME THAT BIRD

So it's been a little more than a week since I last posted anything but I've been canning and working on moving more animals.  You may remember I told you Daughter and I ordered what was labeled "Hatchery Surprise".   As usual we got our early morning call from the local post office telling us our package had arrived.  Really all they need to do is call and let the chorus of chirps speak for itself.  But we did get a very nice call.  The next call was to Daughter letting her know we would be arriving very soon with guests.  So off to the post office Hubby and I went full of excitement and curiosity.  After all we were getting a surprise.  We hurried into the post office and there it was, the song of our future dinner.  Sorry if that offends, but that is what it is (a few special ones do become pets but not many.)

We arrived at Daughters and of course all the grandchildren were waiting in the yard.  They were as excited as we were.  Everyone was guessing what we had.  Daughter had already prepared shelter with water and feed, so she opened the crate and started putting them in their new home.  I pulled the invoice out to see just what we had received.  Well, there it was in writing: 54 birds, and nothing else.  Not one little hint as to what was sent.  SURPRISE...

So where does that bring us?  We need your help.  We're hoping you all will be willing to play a little game called NAME THAT BIRD!  I'm posting a few pictures in hopes you will know what we got.  Everyone can play, the more the merrier.  No penalties for wrong answers.  Thanks in advance and may the, CLUCK, QUACK, HONK?  Be with you.

As always have a Safe and Blessed day and remember, share your knowledge.
